Political Advocacy
It is vital that UU's speak out as a strong voice for liberal religion both individually and as a denomination on the many issues surrounding those impacted by the epidemic. These include:
Prevention issues, especially the impact of abstinence only programs
Access to generic drugs
Debt cancellation
The impact on women
Impact on orphans and children
Funding, especially for the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria
Hunger
Ending global poverty
Genocide
Reproductive rights
The global gag rule
UUGAC Alerts
UUGAC sends out political alerts to the newsletter mailing list, and encourages every congregation to assign a contact who can distribute alerts as part of Social Justice activities.
UUA Advocacy Office
The UUA Advocacy Office is based in Washington, DC . They are a powerful lobbying organization , and an excellent source of information and resource materials on a wide variety of subjects. They send our regular alerts on current issues and have resource packets on how congregations can get involved.
Spotlight Issues
Because the issues are complex and overlapping we plan on occasional “Spotlight Issues” with more in depth information and current political alerts.
